The Holocene Calendar

The Holocene Calendar is the brainchild of the late Cesare Emiliani. It is anchored on the arbitrary year 10,000 B.C.E., which is considered the start of the Holocene Epoch. This date marks the end of the most recent Ice Age and the beginning of agriculture among Humans. It is a date with significance for the whole Human race, unlike traditional dates such as the mis-calaculated birth of Christ, the founding of Rome, the peace treaty that ended the Thirty Years War Against the Cows, the invention of Velveeta, etc.

The Holocene Calendar allows the entire stretch of Human history to be dated without ever having to count backwards. This is not true with any other calendar currently in use. (Interestingly, Renfield's calendar always counts backwards.)

In the Holocene Calendar, all A.D. dates are found by adding 10,000 to the A.D. year. B.C.E. dates are found by subtracting the B.C.E. year from 10,001.

Check out the Holocene Calendar Page for more information.
