Dan ("Renfield") Corcoran is the bastard son of a Finnish storm god named Leivnpaahdin, who was thrown off course by an unexpected gale and found itself stuck in Laurel, Maryland for the summer. Raised by a friendly band of gypsies, at age four the boy was stolen by accountants from New Jersey and forced to work in the spreadsheet mines until he was old enough to buy his freedom. Renfield -- whose name has little, if anything, to do with Count Dracula's servant -- arrived at Don's Acres in the late 1980's and subsequently became part of the ur-Meerkat-Meade on Shipley Road. He proved resistant to all forms of treatment, and so has remained part of our outrageous entourage since. Federal budget cutbacks forced Renfield to resign his position as a top-secret spy for some unidentified agency in DC; he has since taken on a position in medical intelligence and subsists on nuts and berries brought to him by passing wildlife. In his spare time, he is worshipped by a small tribe of South Pacific natives who believe him (perhaps incorrectly) to be a reincarnation of spam. Renfield is passionate about comics and science fiction; he is pictured here in his Starfleet Green Lantern costume. He is also an up-and-coming writer, and has made quite a name for himself in the field of Daria fan fiction. In his secret identity of Dan Corcoran, he is a mild-mannered office worker in charge of Human Relations at McKessonHBOC. Renfield lives at Entropy's Edge (currently in exile at Meerkat Meade) with his fiancee, June Swords. |
