Shipley Road
From 11,990 H.E. to 11,994 H.E.., Thomas and Don and Renfield lived in this rented house on Shipley Road in lovely Linthicum, Maryland. The house, built in the 1950s on the site of an ancient Mastodon burial ground, featured a working fireplace, an enclosed back porch, and a leaky basement.
On Halloween every year, the boys put on an elaborate costumed production -- one year the entire front porch was turned into a giant spiderweb, centering on Thomas in an insect outfit, handing out candy. Another year they did a mad scientist's laboratory. These productions were the delight of the neighborhood kids, who came from blocks around to see them.
(Alas, Meerkat Meade is at the end of a long driveway off a very busy highway, and Halloween visitors are now few and far between.)
